Chapter 1: Selection of wood mosaic tiles

1.1 Wood type and quality

Choose a type of wood for your mosaic tiles that meets the requirements of the room. Oak or teak, for example, are known for their durability and resistance to moisture.

1.2 Mosaic pattern and size

Decide on a mosaic pattern and size that suits both your taste and the size of the room. Smaller patterns are often well suited to smaller rooms, while larger patterns work better in larger areas.

Chapter 2: Installation and laying

2.1 Preparing the surface

Ensure that the subfloor is clean, level and dry before starting the installation. Uneven surfaces can make installation more difficult and affect the final result.

2.2 Correct installation method

Depending on the type of wood mosaic tiles, different installation methods may be required. Use the recommended methods, be it gluing with adhesive or laying in a mortar bed.

Chapter 3: Care and cleaning

3.1 Regular cleaning

Dust the wood mosaic tiles regularly to prevent dirt and deposits. Use a soft broom or a slightly damp cloth for this purpose.

3.2 Protection from moisture

Ensure that the wood mosaic tiles are not exposed to excessive moisture. Use special wood care products to protect the wood from moisture, especially in damp rooms such as bathrooms.

Chapter 4: Repair and maintenance

4.1 Treatment of scratches and stains

Small scratches or stains can often be removed with a gentle wood cleaner or sandpaper. Note the natural grain of the wood to make the repair unobtrusive.

4.2 Replacing damaged tiles

If there is serious damage, individual mosaic tiles can be replaced. Make sure that the replacement matches the color and texture of the existing tiles.

Chapter 5: Creative design ideas

5.1 Accent areas and highlights

Use wood mosaic tiles specifically as accent areas or highlights to create visual interest. This can be done in shower recesses, on kitchen splashbacks or around fireplace surrounds, for example.

5.2 Combination with other materials

Experiment with combining wood mosaic tiles with other materials such as glass, metal or ceramic to create a unique and appealing design. With these tips, you can not only maintain your wood mosaic tiles, but also creatively integrate them into your room concept. Wood mosaic tiles offer the opportunity to create a natural and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere in your rooms.

Chapter 6: Step by step to the new wood mosaic - laying instructions

Laying instructions - Wood mosaic tile

1st tool

  • Pencil
  • folding rule
  • Spirit level
  • Notched trowel 3 x 3 mm
  • Small trowel
  • cutter knife
  • wooden grating board
  • Small circular saw
  • Drill bits with different diameters
  • rubber joint board
  • Multi-Clean sponge
  • Washing aid
  • 1 clean bucket with clear water

2. preparation for laying

  • Prepare the necessary tools and the desired mosaic tiles.
  • Prepare the surface on which the mosaic is to be laid as described in point 3.
  • Divide the area symmetrically or according to the local conditions.
  • It is advisable to divide the larger area into combined sections.

3. substrate

The substrate must meet the following requirements in order to securely and permanently fasten the wooden slats:

load-bearing, permanently dry, clean, grease-free, smooth.

Sealing or priming the substrate is not recommended and can even have a negative impact on the adhesive's bonding effect. You can apply the wooden slats directly to the wall without having to treat them in advance.

4. laying

4.1 Processing the wood mosaic tile adhesive

Open the container and remove the film and any hardened adhesive. Apply new Bakit EK to the substrate using a suitable notched trowel. Only apply as much adhesive as can be covered with the wood mosaic tile in approx. 40 minutes. Insert, align and press down the wood mosaic tile and ensure that the entire surface is covered. Remove adhesive stains on the covering immediately with Bakit RT. Ensure full-surface wetting - if the ends are not fully wetted, this can lead to movement on the adhesive groove. Opened adhesive quantities in the bucket must be covered with foil for storage in order to minimize the reaction of the adhesive.

4.2 Laying the wood mosaic tile

The adhesive must be applied very evenly and carefully using a 3x3 mm trowel. The mosaic panels to be laid must then be carefully placed in the adhesive bed and pressed down evenly and carefully with the aid of the wooden float. The mosaic panels are then aligned. Any adhesive residue on the surface of the mosaics must be removed immediately.

4.3 Processing pd grout

For optimum results, we recommend the following instructions for working with vin pd grouts: Please carry out test grouting if necessary on unknown, open-pored and very rough surfaces.

  • Prepare washing aid
Add washing aid according to the amount of water (approx. 50 ml for a bucket with approx. 5-8 liters of water)
  • Substrate preparation
Clean the surface to be grouted beforehand with a damp cloth using the prepared washing aid.
  • Grouting the surface
Remove the ready-to-use grout from the bucket and grout in using the rubber grouting board. Then remove any excess grouting material. Select the size of the area to be grouted so that any residue of the grouting material can be wiped off with the pd viscose sponge/pd hydro sponge or pd Multi Clean sponge when fresh and does not dry.
  • Smoothing and cleaning
Immediately afterwards, clean the grouted surface with a well-squeezed pd viscose sponge or the pd hydro sponge and the prepared washing aid and smooth the joints. Repeat the process as required.
  • Final cleaning
Wiping strips can be removed the next day dry or with a little water.

5. notes

The mosaic tiles must be allowed to acclimatize to the room climate for 2 days before laying. Only apply enough adhesive so that it is not squeezed out through the joints, otherwise reworking will be necessary. It is advisable to divide up a larger area, as the adhesive forms a skin after approx. 40 minutes, making it impossible to bond with the wood mosaic. The tool must be cleaned after 45 minutes at the latest. Otherwise the adhesive cannot be completely removed. The adhesive hardens by absorbing moisture so that lumps can form in the bucket. To ensure lasting durability, make sure that each mosaic piece is embedded in adhesive.

Expansion joints between two floor coverings can be grouted with our pd grout. For connecting joints and in the wall area, we recommend sealing with silicone.
